Hi, I’m Micah.

And, nine years ago, my debit card got declined trying to buy instant ramen.

When I first started my small business, I couldn’t make it through the grocery checkout line without worrying that I wasn’t going to have enough money to buy groceries (and, sometimes, I didn’t).

The lean times in your small business — the times before you know how to get and keep customers — are so, so hard. You doubt yourself, you feel desperate, and you feel like quitting.

I — and my clients across the world — are proof that you CAN be successful, generate a consistent income, and support your household with practical, sustainable marketing.

I help you go from:

  • slow or nonexistent sales

  • zero social media engagement

  • inconsistent marketing

to:

  • booked out and sold out

  • a growing following of paying customers

  • visible and profitable

I might be a good fit for you if:

you don’t want to “hustle”

You didn’t start your business because you want to work 24/7. You want to be able to turn it off, sign out, and spend more time doing the activities that reenergize you. For me, that’s gardening, cooking, hiking with my dogs, and playing on the farm with my son.

You tend to “DIY” your business

If you’re a go-getter, a fellow perfectionist, or a bit stubborn, and wear a “lot of hats” because you believe you can do it all in your business, I totally understand you. But let’s delegate some stuff so you can get more results in less time.

YOU WANT FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE

One of my driving forces in life is to help women make more money. When you feel good about the amount accumulating in your bank account you have time freedom, financial freedom, and relationship freedom. Your business CAN give you that.

YOU DON’T JIVE WITH NORMAL “BIZ INFLUENCERS”

My advice often runs counter to the content you’ll see from Instagram “gurus.” I’m not a social media coach; I’m gonna get you 100% clear on practical actions to take to generate more sales and more income WITHOUT spending your whole life scrolling.

  • Organic content marketing means showing up to serve or inspire your ideal customers or clients … without paying for ads.

I teach women creatives and artisans how to create content (posts, emails, blogs, videos) that resonates with their ideal audiences and attract people who are excited to book or buy, without using ads or aggressive, pushy tactics.

When you use organic content marketing, that doesn’t mean you can never use ads to grow your business. It just means that we need to nail down the right way to create relationships with your customers or clients before spending your hard-earned dollars on ads.

  • I work virtually with women creatives and artisans to make a roadmap for exactly what to do say in their content and copy to attract the right audience and make a stable, consistent income. You can work with me one-on-one, or in a group setting. Click here for more information.

  • I’m a mama to an only child, a Missouri native and Montana resident, and I love attempting to garden on our farm west of the Rockies.

My background is in social science, and my published research is on persuasive health communication, or how to help people make choices that make us healthier as a society (like cancer screenings or organ donation).

Before I rebranded, my business was named Apis Communication Science, LLC.

I taught college courses at two universities, and worked in political campaigns and speechwriting in two states.

When I’m not with my son, “Biscuit,” or chatting with a client, you can find me on mountain trails or with our flock of unruly chickens.

My Core Values

No. 1

Opening My Backpack

Most women I know walk around with an “invisible backpack” filled with their woman-centric experiences: eating disorders; gender discrimination; the intimate partner violence; motherhood, fertility, and infertility … and those backpacks are heavy.

I challenge myself to open my backpack and share the stories I wish I’d heard when I was younger. Most “backpack” topics are considered taboo, but when we’re open and honest about our experiences, they’re less of a burden and show us all that we’re not carrying ours alone.

No. 2

Shine Theory

Y’know how we all get ahead? With collaboration instead of competition. Shine theory, coined by Ann Friedman, says:

“If you don’t shine, I don’t shine.”

When we shine on other women by supporting, collaborating, and investing in/with other women, we all shine brighter.

No. 3

Big-T Truth

Let’s be honest, marketing pros and business coaches are a dime a dozen. And we’ve all got good stuff to offer! But here’s where I’m different:

I don’t teach my clients strategies based on anecdotal advice or one-off opinions (little-t truth). I’m a trained social scientist with published research in social psychology. I’m an expert in behavioral economics, and I tell you how to create an engaged audience of ideal customers based on how people’s brains work (Big-T Truth).

  1. “Little-t truth” = one person’s experience

  2. “Big-T Truth” = data and hard facts

If you’re interested in what makes people tick, think science is cool, or are a fan of Ologies, Hidden Brain, TED Radio Hour, or Freakonomics … I’m the gal for you.
